Wildlife update – grounds maintenance
Posted on: 25 Jun 26
Our grounds maintenance contractor has recently noticed an increase in the presence of newts, and possibly frogs, within the longer grass areas around the SUDS area in Phase 6.
It appears these amphibians may be seeking shelter in the cooler, shaded grass, as the water areas they would normally inhabit may currently be too warm due to the recent temperatures. To help protect this wildlife and support the local ecosystem, we will temporarily pause grass cutting in these longer grass areas. Once temperatures reduce and conditions become more suitable, these areas will be cut as part of the regular maintenance programme.
We have also seen an increase in bird activity, particularly within some of the smaller hedgerows. To avoid disturbing nesting and feeding habitats, hedge maintenance will be postponed for a couple of weeks in locations including St Johns Walk and the top of The Wedge.
We appreciate that some residents may notice these areas looking less maintained than usual. However, these temporary measures are being taken to balance grounds maintenance responsibilities with supporting local wildlife during this period.
Weekly grounds maintenance reports, detailing the areas we are responsible for and the work carried out by our contractor, M&BG Limited, are available on our website: https://bvtlawleyvillage.org.uk/your-village/lawley-grounds-maintenance-contract/lawley-grounds-maintenance-reports-2026
