In Lawley, Bournville Village Trust (BVT) is responsible for nearly 400 trees.

Trees are an important part of our neighbourhood. They provide valuable benefits for wildlife, the environment and our communities, and we want them to thrive wherever possible.

We aim to carry out the least intrusive work necessary to keep trees healthy and safe, while reducing the risk they may pose to people or property.

We carry out work to trees that are our responsibility when they are diseased, dying, dangerous or dead. We also carry out some work to trees in our tenants’ gardens.

We do not carry out work to trees that are not on BVT-owned or managed land.

Trees in gardens

You have the right to cut back branches from trees that overhang your property. You can find guidance about this on the GOV.UK website.

We will not normally carry out work to our trees because they:

• Overhang a garden
• Drop leaves, fruit, petals, seeds or sap
• Cause bird droppings or similar nuisance
• Block light from a window
• May affect aerial or satellite signal

Trees in tenants’ gardens

If you are a BVT tenant, you are responsible for maintaining trees in your garden. However, if you are concerned a tree in your garden is diseased, dying, dangerous or dead, please let us know. We can arrange an inspection where necessary.

When reporting a tree, please provide as much information as you can, including:

• Where the tree is located
• What the tree looks like
• What damage or problem you have noticed.

If the tree is in a local authority park or open space, please contact Telford and Wrekin Council. They are also usually responsible for trees on roadside verges and pavements, although some are owned and managed by BVT. If you are unsure whether a tree is the responsibility of the council or BVT, please call us on 0300 333 6540.

Trees causing damage to property

If you believe a BVT-owned or managed tree is causing damage to a property, including fences, drains or pathways, please contact us so we can investigate.
