Congratulations to those who received the BVT Garden Award in 2024, details below:

In July the garden team visited Luliana who has used every inch of space in her garden to create her own paradise. Originally from Romania, Luliana has expertise in kitchen gardens and growing food. On moving to England, she said “This is a gardener’s paradise! The rain is great for growing flowers, the winters are not too harsh, and the summer does not scorch the flowers.” Luliana has worked hard to give the corners of her garden a feel where you can sit and relax. There is a vivid range of flowering plants throughout the seasons in all colours. Her favourite flowers are the lilies.

Thanks to our ground maintenance contractors, M&BG for sponsoring the garden awards, the photograph shows Luliana receiving her award from BVT Community Development & Partnership Officer Lin.

Sandra and Vinny have transformed their garden into a plant lover’s heaven and have a wealth of knowledge about growing flowers and produce. Previously, they had a larger garden where they would grow lots of food, they now have a small propagation station for growing plants from seed or cuttings.

Sandra explained that “Our front garden was completely free! The planter structure was already there and we filled the space with homegrown plants. Propagation is definitely the way forward, especially with the cost of plants now”.

Their rear garden utilises different heights to showcase their plants throughout the seasons and there are some very special touches added to their garden with ornaments and memorable items. It is a very well-designed space with a fantastic variety of colours and plants. Sandra’s favourites are the roses. Special thanks to Sandra and Vinny for sharing your garden with us.

Congratulations to Karen for being awarded our BVT Garden Awards plaque this year. Karen has used every inch of space ingeniously on her balcony to create her own little oasis.

Karen said “We’ve grown everything on here over the years; potatoes, strawberries, you name it we’ve grown it. Gardening is in our blood”. Karen’s late husband was a horticulturist, and their family have the green fingered touch as well. As well as using space saving railing pots, Karen has also resourcefully made a micro herb garden out of a magazine rack. She enjoys watching the birds feeding and roosting on her balcony.
