Reflecting on another successful term for the Lawley Management Committee
Posted on: 17 Jul 26
Hello, I’m Jay, Chair of the resident-led Lawley Management Committee. Following our recent committee elections, I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who put themselves forward as candidates and to all the residents who took the time to vote. It’s fantastic to see so many people interested in shaping the future of our community, and I’m delighted to welcome new members to the committee.
I’m also incredibly grateful to have been re-elected and to continue serving residents for another term. As my term as chair ends later this year, it’s given me a great opportunity to look back on what the committee has achieved since it was established.
One thing I’ve always said is that the Lawley Management Committee is far more than a paper exercise. As a resident-led committee, we work closely with Bournville Village Trust (BVT) to ensure the stewardship services provided in Lawley meet the standards residents expect. We represent the community’s views, challenge where necessary and work together to find practical solutions that benefit everyone.
Over the years, we’ve seen some significant improvements that have come directly from residents’ feedback and the committee’s partnership with BVT.
A dedicated Estates & Stewardship team for Lawley
One of the committee’s priorities was ensuring Lawley had a dedicated Estates & Stewardship team. Previously, the team was based in Lightmoor Village and covered both communities.
Working with BVT, we successfully made the case for a dedicated Lawley-based team. Today, residents regularly see estate officers and caretakers out and about, providing a more visible and responsive service.
Improving grounds maintenance
The committee also wanted to ensure residents were receiving the best possible value and quality from the ground’s maintenance service.
BVT agreed to undertake a full tender process for the contract, moving from an in-house service to an external contractor. I was pleased to be involved throughout the process, which demonstrated BVT’s willingness to listen to residents and involve the committee in important decisions that affect the community.
Creating the Lawley Community Hub
One of the achievements I’m particularly proud of is the creation of the Lawley Community Hub.
The committee recognised there was a need for more local services, activities, and advice for residents. When the opportunity arose to lease the premises in Lawley Square, we supported the proposal.
Today, the Hub provides access to a wide range of services including Citizens Advice appointments, baby weaning classes, support for families, tenancy advice, activities for all ages and guidance for parents of children with additional needs. It’s become a real focal point for the community and continues to grow.
Welcoming our new committee members
I’m delighted to welcome our newly elected committee members:
Nina Yiannoukos-Benton
James Raybone
Martin Hough
Over the coming months, they’ll be sharing why they decided to join the committee and what they hope to achieve for Lawley.
As my time as Chair draws to a close later this year, I’ll be proud to hand over to my successor and look forward to continuing to be part of the committee. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me during my time as Chair, as well as my fellow committee members, BVT colleagues and partner organisations who have worked with us to make a positive difference for residents.
If you’ve ever wondered what the committee does, why not observe one of our meetings online? Residents are always welcome, and it’s a great opportunity to see first-hand how the committee represents the community and helps shape decisions that affect Lawley.
You can also find out more about our newly elected committee members on the Lawley Management Committee webpage, where you’ll also find information about upcoming meetings and how the committee works.
