Hot weather and your communal green spaces

It’s the topic that’s been on everyone’s lips over the past few weeks – the weather! While many of us have been enjoying the sunshine, the prolonged hot weather has had a noticeable impact on our communal green spaces.

Although some grassed areas have become dry and dormant, growth rates can vary significantly across the village. Many weeds, hedges and shrubs continue to grow quickly, while grass in shaded or moisture-retaining areas can still remain active despite the dry conditions.

Our grounds maintenance contractor, M&BG Limited, would like to let residents know that you may notice:

• Increased weed growth in borders, shrub beds and hardstanding areas.
• Hedges and shrubs growing more quickly, requiring additional attention between scheduled visits.
• Continued grass growth in shaded or moisture-retaining areas.
• Some grassed areas appearing uneven due to different growth rates across the site.

Why aren’t all grassed areas being cut?

During prolonged dry weather, mowing dormant or drought-affected grass can place unnecessary stress on the turf and result in a poorer finish. Where grass has stopped growing because of the heat, M&BG Limited may reduce mowing in those areas and instead focus on other important maintenance work, including:

• Strimming around obstacles.
• Edging paths and borders.
• Weed control.
• Hedge maintenance.
• Maintaining areas where grass is still actively growing.

This approach helps ensure time on site is used effectively while continuing to keep communal areas safe, tidy and well maintained.
