New homes for bats, birds and hedgehogs

Posted on: 15 Aug 23

Following the success of their wildflower planting project, the Lawley Green Group have now supported local wildlife with their latest project. Thanks to Lawley Partnership Board who provided funding, the group have bought a number of bird and bat boxes as well as insect and hedgehog homes.

  • Members of the group are extremely keen to help native wildlife and increase biodiversity in the local area. Group member Vicki is a particularly strong advocate for hedgehogs and has been keen to get hedgehog houses installed in the area.
  • Special boxes for bird and bat boxes have been chosen as they can often be taken for granted, habitat preservation is important for ensuring species survival. Insect hotels have also been fitted as they are a food source for birds and bats.
  • Lawley has some fantastic green spaces and surrounding woodlands, with many indigenous species leaving theirs. Birds and bats are key consumers in British food chains, so by maintaining their habitat it ensures a healthy ecosystem. The group is also involved in planting more wildflowers which increases insect activity.
  • This project is a real partnership effort, with funding provided by Lawley Partnership Board, installation by Lawley and Overdale Parish Council and BVT in Lawley Village supporting the group to plan and deliver projects.

The Green Group was set up after requests from residents interested in all things green and environmental. The group would love more members, so if you’d like to get involved please contact lawleystewardship@bvt.org.uk
