16-year-old Jordan Lee-Haldron is a valuable volunteer at BVT, for the past 18 months he has often become Mawley the Lawley mole for events across the year. This is an amazing achievement for Jordan, as he is profoundly Deaf and was very shy, had social anxiety and low self-confidence in talking and listening. However, he wanted to push himself and so as well as volunteering to be Mawley, he also took part in his college’s Prince’s Trust programme, which aims to maximise young people’s chances of moving into employment, education, or training.
The curriculum team leader for the Princes Trust at the college nominated Jordan in the High Sheriff of Shropshire’s Outstanding Young Citizen Awards.
The nomination said: “Jordan is now in his second term on the new Princes Trust programme and working towards his qualification in Personal Development and Employability. Having successfully integrated into a mainstream college and despite the barriers he has had to overcome, his confidence in his abilities such as contributing to lessons and making new friends is allowing him to achieve his aspirations way beyond what he originally thought he could achieve. Jordan is already looking forward to his progression and is wanting to continue his studies in Art and Media.
Last week Jordan and his family attended the awards ceremony where Jordan came away as not only Young Citizen of the Year for Telford and Wrekin (Secondary Phase) but also overall Outstanding Young Citizen of Telford and Wrekin award winner.
Congratulations Jordan we are very proud of you!
